Beautiful beach at Robert Moses State Park

    Há algumas semanas atrás, minha vizinha fofíssima Mariana me convidou pra ir numa praia em Long Island no esquema bate-volta. Ela falou muito bem de lá e eu fiquei animadíssima. A praia fica em Robert Moses State Park, e tem um site (clique aqui) como todas as informações do local (inclusive todas as regras e leis, como tudo por aqui...).

    A few weeks ago, my so great neighbor Mariana invited me to go to a beach in Long Island. She spoke highly about there and I was so excited to go. The beach is at Robert Moses State Park, and has a website (click here) with all information about the place (including all rules and laws, as everything here ...)




    A Mari nos alertou para fazermos uma "marmitinha" com lanches, frutas e bebidas que desejar, pois a lanchonete nao tem nada muito alem de lanches e batata-frita. Aí vai do gosto de cada um!! Nós fomos preparados para a nossa farofinha!! hehehe

    Mari warned us to bring some snacks, fruits and drinks you want, because the cafeteria has nothing much besides hot-dogs and chips. We were prepared for our "farofinha!" hehehe

    Bom, para irmos até lá pegamos um trem pela  Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) na Penn Station com destino a Babylon. Compramos os tickets nas maquinas da LIRR, e dou algumas dicas:
    - aqui não se compra tickets de viagem com hora marcada. Simplesmente você compra para o destino que deseja, e então fique aguardando em frente aos monitores o anúncio do número da plataforma em que estará o próximo trem para o destino que escolheu. Assim que anunciar, vá para a plataforma e GUARDE os tickets com vc porque dentro do trem você tem que apresentar para os fiscais e isso pode ser mais de uma vez.
    - Outra coisa, sabendo o horário que deseja viajar, fique atento se esse horário é pico (peak) ou fora de pico (off-peak), você tem que escolher a opção correta na máquina porque tem preços diferentes, e claro que fora de pico é mais barato.

    Well, to go up there we  took a train from Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) in Penn Station round-trip for Babylon. We bought tickets on the LIRR machines, and I have a few tips:
     - Here you can not buy travel tickets by appointment. You just buy for the destination you want. Then, you wait in front of the displays, to see the number of platform that will be the next train to the destination you chose. Once announced, go to the platform and KEEP your tickets with you during your travel because you have to submit to the "train inspector" and this can happen more than once.
     - Another thing, knowing the time you want to travel, be aware if this is peak time or off-peak. You have to choose the right option on the machine because it has different prices, and of course off-peak is cheaper.


    A viagem de trem dura em torno de 1h e é bem tranquila. Chegando em Babylon, descemos da plataforma e pegamos um ônibus ali mesmo que leva até a praia em Robert Moses State Park (Dizem que esse ônibus é sincronizado com o trem). O percurso dura 15 min e custa U$1.50 (leve o valor exato, pois não há troco. Você pode pagar junto com outra pessoa, por exemplo, U$3.00, assim não se preocupa com os 50 cents...). E pronto!! Está na praia!
    A praia é linda, de areia branca, mar com ondas, bem parecida com nossas praias brasileiras. Tem uma lanchonete, banheiro e ducha! Melhor impossível, não??

     The train ride took about 1 hour and is very calm. Arriving at Babylon, down the platform, we took a bus there which runs directily to the beach at Robert Moses State Park (some people says that this bus is synchronized with the train). The journey lasts 15 minutes and costs $ 1.50 (take the exact value, because there is no change. You can pay with another person, for example, $ 3.00, so you don't need to worry about the 50 cents ...). And voila! You are on the beach!
     The beach is beautiful, white sand, sea waves, much like our Brazilian beaches. It has a cafeteria, bathrooms and showers! Better impossible, no?

    Passamos o dia todo por lá, e depois voltamos pra casa!! O caminho de volta é exatamente o inverso. Fique atento também para os horários do ônibus, porque eles funcionam até um certo horário, mas dentro do próprio ônibus tem um panfleto com informações e o motorista também avisa, inclusive para tentar pegar o penúltimo.

    We spent the entire day there, and then back home! The way back is exactly the opposite. Also, watch out for the bus schedules, because they work until a certain time, but inside the bus there is a pamphlet with information and the driver also warns, and says to try not to catch the last bus.
